I’m really excited to bring you this blog post because it’s been a year in waiting. Last year I teamed up with my daughters friends mom to put together this fabulous little Earth Day Birth Day which I absolutely adore. I can’t thank you enough Kathy for letting me take the reins on your daughter’s party with such a non traditional theme so if you’re reading this….Thank you, thank you & thank you!! Now, are you ready for some good, Green fun?Check out little Leilani bringing her bestie a birthday present. So darn cute!! Of course I found the most perfect shirt at Target. When it came to planning this party I had so many ideas in mind. I love being outdoors and when it comes to planning a party I pull so much inspiration from nature. My main goal for this theme was to use as many reusable & recyclable materials as possible. For weeks leading up to the party I saved as many aluminum cans, bottles & anything else that I might be able to use for decorations. My husband thought I was nuts when I told him to start saving me all his little K-cups from his morning coffee but hey they made adorable little succulent pots. I teamed up with Shindigz to showcase some of their awesome decor so keep scrolling to see all the earth day fun we had planned for these girls! I contacted Jen from Jen T By Design and begged her to work with me on this theme. I love her printable style so much and knew she would be able to pull off some really fun designs based off of my ideas. Like these plates for instance, are they not the cutest plates ever?! Shindigz allows you to make custom plates by simply uploading a design in the middle and you get to choose your border. So many fun combos you can come up with! I layered them on top of their tree slab placemats which I can use over & over again. Don’t TRASH the earth!
Leave it to me to take time to decorate trash cans but hey with cute labels like these why wouldn’t you? These are reusable and great for parties at the park. You can find them here. I made the HAPPY B-EARTHDAY banner by cutting grocery paper bags into pennants and then glued on sticks and some pretty little paper flower adornments. My most favorite part of planning this party was coming up with fun nature inspired food. It’s all just so cute! I passed my ideas along to Kathy and she whipped up the food like a pro. She’s pretty amazing! Tablecloth, & drink dispensers came from Shindigz.
In keeping with the reusable trend I wanted to include some flower arrangements into my display but didn’t want to have to throw them away afterwards. So I reached out to my friend Cindy from Paper Weeds and asked if she could make me up some paper flowers. Now I can use them again and again for any upcoming shoots. I displayed them thru out the party in left over bottles & jars wrapped in twine with a bow for some added pretty. I made Wind Turbine cupcakes by using blue & green food coloring to color my cupcake batter. Cindy from Paper Weeds whipped me up some windmill cupcake toppers to finish them off. Custom toppers from Shindigz. I simply uploaded my jpeg printable image made by Jen T and here they are. So cute! Amazing cookies from Creative Little Cookie. I sent her over my ideas and some of the printable designs and she came back with the most adorable designs! I put together a nature inspired scavenger hunt for the kids to go on. I made binoculars by decorating toilet paper rolls with coordinating scrapbook paper & I made this special treasure box for the birthday girl by painting a leftover strawberry container. The girls were asked to find something special while out on their hunt to put into Gabriella’s treasure box for her to keep. Instead of using a plastic tablecloth that doesn’t break down easily I covered the picnic table in a natural kraft paper roll made out of recycled material. I did incorporate some real flowers into the party but bought plants from The Home Depot instead of cut flowers so that I could plant them in my garden afterwards.
Another activity planned was a “Plant A Seed & Watch A Happy Birthday Grow” station. I used biodegradable berry baskets as the pots so once the seeds were planted the girls could just dig a hole in their own garden at home and plant the whole basket into the Earth then watch their flowers bloom. The berry baskets are made from recyclable material and break down easily over time with water. Reusable tassle garland from the amazing Paper Fox L.A. Left over soup cans decorated with scrapbook paper are perfect to hold paper straws & candles. My favorite celebration candles come from Creative Candles. This photo is actual proof that you can look sad while eating a cupcake. A funny little side story about Olivia’s adorable dress from Target. I laid out the girls outfits that morning that I wanted them to wear but I had my husband get them ready and bring them to the park at party time. All party long when I would take Olivia’s picture I kept thinking why is this dress so low cut, you can almost see her little ninnies? With all the hustle & bustle of set up and taking pictures I didn’t even realize he put her dress on backwards. 🙂 As if we didn’t squeeze in enough nature inspired ideas into this party Kathy had one more earth friendly idea. Cover a toilet paper roll with peanut butter and then roll it in birdseed. String it up on some twine and it makes a yummy little treat for the birdies. When all the fun was done everyone was presented with their very own world class certificate thanking them for being a responsible caretaker of their Earth. How awesome is that? I know this is the longest post ever but there were just so many amazing details to share! If you’re still reading this, thank you!! I’m so excited to announce this party was picked up for a 6 page spread in Mingle Magazine for their Spring Issue that hit news stands April 1st. You can pick one up at your local B&N bookstore or online here. Thank you Stampington & Co!
