It’s here! I’m so excited to share with you the reveal of our family dollhouse makeover. Many, many weeks of work went into this project and I couldn’t love it any more! Just to bring you up to speed in case you missed my last post, this is my childhood dollhouse or it used to be. Now, its bigger and better! I teamed up with Miniatures.com to bring you this makeover and showcase some of their beautiful minature products. I shared in my previous post That Tiny Life Makeover all the work that went down to remodel it from its 1980s glory to an updated blank slate ready for moving in. So, this post is all about those details that make a dollhouse a home. Here she is in all her glory. Complete with a dutch door, farmhouse sink, Buttercup the cat and an art room just for my daughter. We even gave it a front lawn!
We installed the trim in my last post and it was painted white. As I designed more of the outside I decided it would look better painted black and dang it if I wasn’t right.
How cute is this porch and little Buttercup? Keep an eye out for her because she seems to pop up everywhere. The porch was a complete custom build since the original house only had some busted steps. We used this porch rail set and cut it to length and made the posts out of birch wood. I found the tiny little flower pots in the woodworking section at the craft store and used them through out the house. These pots are painted a Goldenrod and I filled them with hot glue, then inserted clippings from some fake plants while the glue was still hot.
This cute little potting bench. Everything is just so cute in miniature form. You’re going to hear that word a lot in this post. Cute….cute….cute!
I filled the window boxes the same way I did the flower pots. Hot glue and clippings.
Home Sweet Home! I made this wreath using a grapevine ring I had leftover from my daughters fairy party I did a few years back. What was a napkin ring back then was the perfect size for a miniature wreath now. Using my Cricut I cut the little saying out of cardstock and glued on some flowers. It is the perfect addition to my dream dutch door I have always wanted. The door is attached with these decorative strap hinges.
Look the Amazon guy came! I made a slightly larger rug out of cardstock to go under my welcome mat to make it stand out a little more.
This little light fixture is probably my favorite craft from the whole project. Using a tiny little jar I used to have filled with glitter, a brad nail and wire I put together something totally unique.
I wanted to give the house something sturdy to rest on since I knew it would be moved around a lot. So,we attached it to a piece of partical board and picked up some turf from the home improvement store to give it a nice thick lawn.
That’s it for the outside now let’s tour the inside! What used to be a bathroom for me growing up is now an art room for my daughter.
This little wingchair was a fun little project for my husband. It comes in a kit, you pick your own fabric and put it together yourself. It came out so good and I thank him for his patience!
Oh hey Buttercup….
I used this art easel and gave it a coat of black paint to match my decor better. You can also see here the pretty star scrapbook paper we covered the ceiling with so my daughter could pretend to paint under the stars everynight.
This tiny little art box is another kit you put together and again I thank you honey for your patience! 🙂 It was so cute wathching him and our daughter rolling up these little sheets of aluminim foil to get these paint tubes.
In love with this black geometric paper used for flooring. I think I’d like to have that in my own house!
Next is the bedroom.
For some custom artwork I printed this image I love then glued it inside this gold ornate picture frame. I love the way it pops against the paint color. You can see what paint colors I used in my previous post.
I’ll take one of these peacock beds in my own house as well. Find the template to make your own at Dilly Dally Dollhouse. I picked up a small sqaure of yellow fabric from the craft store to make the pillows and sheets then cut up some fabric from my newborn photography wraps that I no longer use.
Oh hey Buttercup…
A little reading nook. I made another one of those lights to use as a wall sconce, some custom peace sign art work and that’s my slice of cake for later.
I painted an old piece of my furniture from back in the day this bright yellow that I love paired with this gold sunburst mirror.
Now, let’s head downstairs. There used to be a set of stairs that went from the bedroom into the living room but we took them out along with the dividing wall to give it an open concept and I absolutely love it!!
The kitchen with its gorgeous vintage wallpaper and perfect white kitchen stove.
Remember my corn flakes from my previous post? I couldn’t not re-use them. These might be the oldest corn flakes in the world. Using the hardware off of one of my old childhood pieces my husband and I made this custom cabinet and it is so perfect for this space.
This 1920’s style porcelein sink is everything I’ve ever wanted in a dollhouse sink!
I went with a classic Ivory color for the unfinished pedestal table and kept the chairs their original color to pull from all the other birch wood accents like the floor.
Those tiny little forks….
Oh hey Buttercup….
This clock was one of my childhood pieces that I repainted black.
I made this pendant light fixture using a wooden bead that fell off my curtains the day before. 🙂
Couch and chair set from the bedroom I picked up from the craft store. It came with the white coffee & side table.
My favortie piece of furniture in the whole house is this Belfort Arm Chair.
Using leftover material from the 3 piece porch railing set I made a blanket ladder.
Another peacock sighting with this black peacock inspired fireplace screen. I think I need to throw a peacock party!
Oh hey Buttercup….
There you have it! Mine & my husbands first home remodel job and we’re still married. I’d say that’s a win! I hope you love it as much as we do. As you can see my girls can’t wait to play with it!
